Billerica Library Board Elects New Chair, Repeals 2011 Social Media Policy
BILLERICA — December 4, 2023 — Billerica Library trustees elected new leadership and cleared an outdated policy at their December 4 meeting. The board unanimously elected Ellen as chair, with Maggie continuing as vice chair and Michelle as secretary, following the outgoing chair's invitation to new members to step up. The board also unanimously repealed the library's April 2011 social networking policy, which had been superseded by a more comprehensive town-wide policy adopted around 2014. Library Director Joe reported that the library received its first state aid payment of $45,562.84, described as a substantial increase over prior years, while the library's annual Merrimack Valley Library Consortium membership fee will rise 4.95 percent — the maximum permitted — to $61,000.40, the second consecutive year at the cap. The director also reported lower-level restroom vandalism on November 30, an ongoing water heater replacement requiring a new electric heat pump unit, a rare-tool delay in fixing a slow-closing elevator staff door, and the retirement of nearly 10-year staff member Ellen Adobe at the end of December.
