BILLERICA -- October 6, 2025, Billerica Library Board of Trustees approves revised local history room policy and elects full officer slate. The board voted unanimously October 6 to adopt a new access and preservation policy for the library's local history collection, drafted by recently hired staff member Claire Gordy, who brought preservation experience from the Boston Athenaeum. The policy creates two tiers: a reference collection available on open shelves during library hours and a rare collection accessible only by appointment or staff retrieval, with patrons required to log identification before handling materials. The board also added last-minute language granting the library director discretion to loan items to recognized historical institutions for temporary display, prompted by the discovery during Gordy's ongoing inventory that a donated wedding dress had been on display at the Billerica Historical Society without formal tracking. In officer elections brought forward to comply with bylaw deadlines, the board unanimously seated Maggie as chair, Michelle as vice chair, and Joanne Fraser as secretary.
