Billerica Library Board Approves Holiday Festival, Closes Meeting Room Booking Loophole

BILLERICA — June 1, 2026 — Billerica Library Board of Trustees tightened its meeting room rules and approved the Floral Holiday Festival's annual library reception at its June 1 meeting. The board unanimously adopted an amendment to its meeting room and conference room policy explicitly limiting all bookings to four hours per day and barring patrons from reserving the room more than once daily — a change prompted after two groups attempted to secure all-day access through consecutive four-hour reservations. The board also unanimously approved a facility-use request from Floral Holiday Festival Chair John Gagliardi for the organization's 28th-season holiday reception on Friday, November 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a display running from November 21 through December 13. In her director's report, the library director announced that summer reading launches June 22 with a planting-and-gardening theme, that children ages zero through 10 will return to in-person paper reading logs for the first time since the pandemic, and that the library will be among the first Merrimack Valley Library Consortium members to shift from Microsoft to Google's email and productivity suite, with the transition expected in June.
