Billerica FinCom votes 8-3 to add $622,821 to Shawsheen Tech budget
FinCom · Meeting of July 29, 2026
Billerica Finance Committee votes 8-3 to add $622,821 to Shawsheen Tech's fiscal 2027 budget. Shawsheen Valley Technical High School's revised budget, presented by Superintendent-Director Tony and new Business Manager Ian Gosselin, totals $43,903,347, a 3.69 percent increase, after $456,614 in reductions to capital and program spending. Billerica's own assessment rises from $12,187,809 to $12,810,630, with the $622,821 difference headed to a fall Town Meeting warrant article.
One member, Josh, voted no, saying "what I don't see is anything structural, which means it's not real savings." Enrollment now runs near 1,300 students in a building sized for roughly 1,000, and Shawsheen accepted 330 incoming freshmen from about 600 applicants. Officials face a Dec. 1 deadline to finalize the budget before the state education commissioner would gain authority to set it.
