Billerica 250th Committee finalizes July 2 fireworks logistics, votes on event spending

BILLERICA — June 24, 2026 — Billerica's 250th Anniversary Committee finalized public safety, transportation, and vendor logistics for its July 2 fireworks and festival at Vietnam Veterans Park. Sergeant McGannon briefed the committee on a completed public safety plan featuring the Middlesex Sheriff's command post in the House of Correction's lower parking lot, a tiered road closure system on Treble Cove Road, and a worst-case staging of up to 20 ambulances at the Dutile School. Eastern Bus confirmed 20 shuttle buses on at least two numbered routes, with a routing shortcut through the DPW facility on Farm Road projected to save roughly 10 minutes per round trip. The committee voted unanimously to rent two T-shirt launchers for up to $300 and approved directing any raffle proceeds raised at the Yankee Doodle event booth — using items donated by event vendors — toward a children's activity to be sponsored in the committee's name. A final pre-event meeting was set for Monday, June 30 at 7 p.m., and the committee's $500 cash calendar top prize will be drawn that same night.
