Billerica 250th Committee approves $40,000 fireworks and $10,000 bank sponsorship

BILLERICA — May 27, 2026 — Billerica's 250th Anniversary Committee accepted a $10,000 Stoneham Bank sponsorship and voted to increase fireworks spending to $40,000 at its May 27 meeting. The unanimous votes came as the committee reported total funds raised of $42,255.07 and a net account balance of $54,839.71, with an additional $35,000 town appropriation and the $10,000 donation still to be deposited, pushing the projected available total above $100,000. Stoneham Bank's package includes a Boston Road billboard, co-branded yard signs throughout town, and twice-weekly social media promotion, with the bank to be credited as fireworks co-sponsor alongside the town. The committee also unanimously lowered non-food vendor table fees from $250 to $125 for a single table and approved up to $200 for gunpowder costs for a cannon crew from the Wellington Colonial Minutemen, who will fire on the hour throughout the July 2 event at Pinehurst Park. A fire department representative cautioned that a state drought advisory remained a possibility that could result in a last-minute fireworks ban.
