Billerica Scholarship Committee Flags Compliance Gaps With National Affiliate Dollars for Scholars
Scholarship · Meeting of August 5, 2026
Billerica Scholarship Committee warns of compliance gaps with Dollars for Scholars affiliate as it maps fall events. At the August 5 meeting, member Patty urged the committee to re-engage with its national scholarship affiliate, Dollars for Scholars, saying members have not attended webinars or regional meetings in years and are unaware of proposed program changes the chapter is contractually bound to follow. "We're not an independent scholarship committee," she said, noting the Billerica chapter is doubly accountable to both the town and its affiliate agreement.
A member referred to as Sharon was asked to review portal documents and prepare a summary for the September meeting. The committee also welcomed new member Ria, set August 24 as its Farmer's Market date with calendars priced to match consignment partner Rustic Ridge, assigned members to back-to-school nights at all six Billerica schools, reported a midpoint book-and-clothing drive total of approximately $670, and confirmed the fall lottery will launch September 1, with tickets distributed to members for in-person sales starting that date.
