Billerica Scholarship Foundation Sets April 29 Award Date for 155 Applicants
BILLERICA — April 1, 2026 — Billerica Worker Scholarship Foundation received 155 applications for the Class of 2026, down from roughly 170 to 180 last year, and set an awards allocation session for April 29. Of the applicants, 134 came from Billerica Memorial High School, 19 from Shawsheen Valley Technical High School, and two from Innovation Academy; no other schools submitted applicants. The treasurer reported approximately 12 stale scholarship checks must be voided because prior recipients never verified their enrollment, with one student having had a stale check rejected after attempting to cash it. A school fundraising raffle is currently in distribution at Billerica elementary schools, with ticket pickups set for April 15 and May 8 and the winning ticket to be drawn May 15. The committee voted unanimously to approve minutes from its February 4 and March 4 meetings and adjourned with a next regular meeting set for May 7, when the April 29 allocation will be formally ratified.
