Billerica Recreation Center on Track for September 2026 Opening at Vining School Site

BILLERICA — September 30, 2025 — Billerica Recreation Director previews fall and winter events and confirms September 2026 opening for new facility. David Grubb, Director of Recreation for the Town of Billerica, appeared on the September 30 Town Manager Weekly program hosted by Town Manager Chris Dillon to outline upcoming programming and provide a construction update on the town's new recreation center. The 21,000-square-foot facility, under construction on the site of the former Vining Elementary School, is on schedule for a move-in date of early to mid-September 2026, and will include two full-size basketball courts, pickleball and tennis courts, a dance and fitness studio, and multiple function rooms. Fall and winter programming includes a Halloween Bash at Vietnam Veterans Park on October 26, a new Thanksgiving-season Family Pie-Athlon in mid-November, a free Holiday Family Fun Night at Town Hall, a Holiday Bash with a synthetic ice rink and Santa Claus at PHR on December 14, and a Jingle Bell Walk on December 22. Grubb said the new center will consolidate recreation programs "currently scattered throughout town" into a single hub.
