Billerica's Open Space and Recreation Committee heard a conservation-tool presentation and debated setting aside Community Preservation funds for future land deals.
OSRP · Meeting of July 7, 2026
Billerica's Open Space and Recreation Committee heard a conservation-tool presentation and debated setting aside Community Preservation funds for future land deals. Sudbury Valley Trustees conservation coordinator Mike Perrin walked the panel through the group's SUASCO land-prioritization map, using the recently protected Grampy's Land parcel as an example, which scored a 13 for natural services value. Chair Mike Rosa floated redirecting 5 percent of the committee's annual Community Preservation Committee open-space earmark, "half of the earmark," into a standing account for legal costs tied to transferring town parcels into conservation protection, after an earlier batch of transfers ran up roughly $15,000 in legal fees.
The committee approved its June 2 minutes 4-0, with one member abstaining, and set a November 7 field trip to the Millbrook Overlook and Thoreau's towpath area.
