Billerica Library Board Approves Snacks in Study Rooms, Updates Food Policy

BILLERICA — May 5, 2025 — Billerica Library Board of Trustees approves study room snack access, resolving policy inconsistency across three documents. The board voted unanimously at its May 5 meeting to revise the library's food and drink policy, allowing patrons to consume light snacks during approved study room bookings — a change prompted by the practical problem that patrons reserving rooms for up to five hours had no food access and would forfeit their reservation by leaving for more than 20 minutes. Library Director Sharon worked with facilities contact Bob Solis before bringing the proposal forward. Two conforming amendments — to the Code of Conduct and the Study Room policy — were also passed unanimously, eliminating language that had conflicted with past practice. In the director's report, the board also heard that the library's annual wine tasting on April 25 netted $7,267.38, AARP volunteers processed roughly $400,000 in free community tax filings for the season, and new Circulation Supervisor Megan Doyle was recognized for a strong start in her role.
