Billerica DPW launches public app, breaks ground on $50 million facility

BILLERICA -- January 6, 2025, Billerica DPW unveils new public-reporting app and updates $50 million facility project. DPW Director Fred Russell appeared on the January 6 town access program Town Hall Weekly, hosted by Clancy Mayne, to announce the same-day launch of a mobile app called Billerica Works, available on Apple and Android, which allows residents to report potholes, downed trees, and water and sewer problems with photo attachments and live status updates. Russell also updated progress on a town-meeting-authorized $50 million, 67,000-square-foot DPW facility under construction near Route 3 on the site of a former house-of-correction wastewater plant, with groundbreaking in November 2024 and completion targeted for August 2026. On Boston Road, Russell described a mid-project lane shift effective that day, with southbound traffic moving to the Town Hall side for approximately two weeks while crews work the median, followed by a final phase covering sidewalks and decorative lighting.
