Billerica advances bike path, two Boston Road projects toward 2025 construction

BILLERICA — January 13, 2025 — Billerica advances three infrastructure projects toward construction in 2025. Town Manager Clancy Main and Town Engineer Kelly Conway outlined timelines on a January 13 episode of Town Hall Weekly, covering the Lexington Road and Glad Valley Road corridor project, the ongoing Boston Road North streetscape, and the Yankee Doodle bike path. The Lexington and Glad Valley project — which will add sidewalks along Boston Road from Tower Farm Road to Locke Road and separate a tangled triangular intersection into two signalized intersections — is set to be advertised for bids in April 2025, with construction likely beginning in summer and running 12 to 18 months; the state will manage construction while the town managed design. Boston Road North construction will shift to the Burns Funeral Home side of the street this season, with the current alternating traffic pattern expected to change "soon" and the full project running into 2026. Phase one of the Yankee Doodle bike path, running from Concord Road and Middlesex Turnpike to the Bedford town line, is expected to go out to bid this summer and will connect to Bedford's existing Narrow Gauge Trail.
