BHA votes to draft video surveillance policy
BHA · Meeting of September 10, 2026
Billerica Housing Authority orders a written video surveillance policy for its 13 River Street property. Commissioners voted 4-0, with one member absent, to direct staff to draft the policy after a member said other agencies "have policies to govern how they're operated." The outgoing executive director, identified only as Rob, said the state-subsidized camera system could grow to roughly 95 cameras at a cost of about $150,000, citing an alleged assault, a knife found in a parking lot, and unauthorized residents as justification. The board also voted 4-0-1 to repurpose unit 8-7 for supportive-care partner A-SPAN, reappointed Commissioner Matakos to the Billerica Affordable Housing Trust, approved $103,499.24 in September voucher payments, and opened a search for a new executive director with finalists capped at five and a projected salary range of about $101,473 to $112,000.
