Billerica Historic Commission votes 5-0 to hire Kleinfelder for townwide property survey. Members Michelle DeMaris and Keith LeVon, who led the firm interviews, recommended Kleinfelder over two competitors, citing its municipal survey experience and dedicated project team; DeMaris said the firm told interviewers, "we just keep digging until we get what we need." The commission voted twice by roll call, 5-0 each time, first to add contract language covering a project manager's planned December leave, then to approve hiring Kleinfelder and drafting a contract for the Billerica Historic Property Survey Project. Kleinfelder's bid came in at $43,641, within budget, according to member Mary Leach, who reviewed the sealed cost proposals.
Member Alec Ingram separately flagged a Lowell Street house project that could eliminate public access to a Middlesex Canal trail, calling it a risk to "historic memorialization of our heritage." The commission's next meeting is set for September 22.
