BILLERICA --
TOWN -- John Bartlett, chair of the Billerica Recreation Commission, told the Select Board on Sept. 14 that the town's new recreation center, built on the site of the old Vining School on Lexington Road, will hold its ribbon cutting on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 5:30 p.m. Bartlett said the roughly 22,000-square-foot building includes two full-size basketball courts that can also be used as six indoor pickleball courts, men's and women's locker rooms and showers, a large dance and fitness room, and a multipurpose room that can be subdivided. Outside, alongside the site's two existing baseball fields, the town added a playground, a children's splash pad, four outdoor pickleball courts, two more basketball courts, and additional parking. Bartlett, who represented recreation on the town's Capital Facilities Committee, said funding for the project was approved at the spring 2024 town meeting, the building was completed on schedule, and recreation activities will begin at the new facility on Monday, Sept. 28.
YOUTH LEAGUES -- Billerica Little League posted a note on its website Sept. 16 flagging "2027 Spring Tryouts," though no further scheduling details were listed on the page.
