Billerica Resident Calls for Water Supply Study at Select Board Meeting
BILLERICA — August 15, 2022 — Billerica resident calls on Select Board to study water supply alternatives amid drought. Andrew Jones, a 45-year resident of Talbot Avenue, told the Select Board at its August 15 meeting that Billerica's dependence on a single water source and a single intake location poses a risk to the town's future, citing both ongoing drought conditions and pending economic development projects that would require greater water volume. Jones said he attended the late-June informational meeting about the proposed Talbot Dam removal and came away focused not on the dam itself but on the town's supply vulnerability. "If efforts are not currently underway to add to and diversify Billerica's water supply, the appropriate study should be undertaken immediately," he told the board. The remainder of the meeting's audio record was technically unrecoverable.
