Billerica Finance Committee Picks Two Members for Town Manager Screening Panel

BILLERICA — August 6, 2024 — Billerica Finance Committee selects two representatives for the town manager screening panel. The committee voted at its August 6 meeting to send members identified in the transcript as Darlene and Dave to the screening committee overseeing the town manager search, choosing them from a field of four nominees after Phil withdrew his name voluntarily. Two residents addressed the committee before the vote, with Carol Ridden of Precinct 9 urging the panel to avoid appointing members who had already served on prior screening committees, saying the body should choose someone with "more of a bipartisan view." The committee also corrected its July minutes to reflect that one vote passed three to five with two abstentions — not seven to three as originally recorded — after member John Malloy's abstention and Brian Dorrington's non-vote were properly accounted for. A separate informational update noted that an unnamed project is seeking $292,000 from the Community Preservation Committee toward a total cost of approximately $492,000.
