Billerica Subcommittee Approves Town Counsel Contract, Forwards for Final Signature

BILLERICA — September 4, 2024 — Billerica's Town Counsel Subcommittee unanimously approved a final retainer agreement with law firm Brooks and Drnaso PC on September 4. The subcommittee, a panel of the Select Board, confirmed that all previously requested revisions had been incorporated into the contract before voting to forward it to the Select Board chair for final signature. The agreement, covering town counsel and other legal services from June 18, 2024 through June 18, 2025, provides for hourly billing through August 31, 2024, and then shifts to a monthly retainer beginning September 1, consistent with town bylaw Section 11.2. Out-of-pocket expenses require prior town approval for any single item exceeding $500, with an exception for deposition costs. The contract includes a 90-day termination notice provision and a clause requiring the parties to review the retainer compensation after six months.
