Billerica Library Board Elects Secretary, Launches Two-Hour Study Room Pilot

BILLERICA — September 8, 2025 — Billerica Library Board approves study room pilot and fills long-vacant secretary post. The Board of Trustees voted at its September 8 meeting to trial a reduction in study room reservation blocks from four hours to two — with a one-hour extension available when no one is waiting — beginning in October and running through December, when staff will report findings at the board's monthly meeting. The move comes after staff reported routinely turning away patrons because early-arriving users hold all rooms for the full four-hour allotment. The board also elected a member identified as Joanne as secretary to fill a seat that had been vacant for several months, and agreed to schedule a full officer election in October to realign with bylaws that call for elections that month rather than January. New trustee Alyssa Butterfield was seated, filling the vacancy left by a trustee identified as Marty who did not renew. The director reported 835 summer reading participants — including a record 284 adults — and circulations up 5 percent in FY25 over FY24.
