Billerica CPC Reviews $70,000 BMX Track Funding Request at Veterans Park
BILLERICA — November 13, 2025 — Billerica's Community Preservation Committee heard a request for up to $70,000 to restore the BMX track at Vietnam Veterans Park, taking no vote but signaling general support. Track operator Adam, a Hingham resident who has run the volunteer-based Billerica BMX 501(c) nonprofit for three years, described a 22-year-old facility that has grown ridership 35 percent and raised $20,000 on its own toward repairs including track surface work, a new starting gate, and fencing. Committee member Larry flagged the applicant's out-of-town address and private-nonprofit status as eligibility concerns; staff member Jane said she believes the project likely qualifies but will verify registration and confirm the organization's Billerica address before the December 31 application deadline. The committee also raised unresolved questions about Conservation Commission jurisdiction over portions of the park, warning that any drainage work could require a separate permitting process regardless of the organization's nonprofit status.
