Billerica 250th Committee Books Fireworks, Accepts Vice Chair's Resignation
BILLERICA — September 10, 2025 — Billerica's 250th Anniversary Committee locked in a fireworks contract and reported roughly $10,000 in commemorative ad-book commitments at its September 10 meeting. Chair Chris LaFosse confirmed Ocean State Pyrotechnics is booked for a July 2, 2026 celebration, most likely at Marshall Middle School, and said he is in talks with the Army Band about a return performance; Donald Jarvis of the Billerica Veterans Services Department, attending via Zoom, confirmed that applications for both ground military vehicles and aviation assets are on file and said the committee has enough lead time to pursue helicopters through the FAA, though he cautioned other communities may be competing for the same assets. On fundraising, member Gil reported confirmed full-page ad commitments from Robert Scott General Contracting and Sweeney Funeral Homes and a quarter-page from Marshall's Auto Body, with BATV also intending to contribute, bringing the running total toward $10,000 against a stated $35,000 end-of-September goal. The committee voted unanimously to accept the resignation of Vice Chair Dan Burns and deferred a vote on his replacement to a rescheduled meeting tentatively set for September 23 or 25.
